The Arab Music Festival in Amman is one of the longest-running dedicated celebrations of Arabic classical and contemporary music in the Levant, running across eight evenings each September. Amman has hosted the festival for over a decade, and the event draws symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, and solo vocalists from across the Arab world — Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Tunisia, and the Gulf are all typically represented alongside Jordanian performers.

What the festival covers

The programme spans classical Andalusian and Maqam traditions, Egyptian tarab, orchestral arrangements of folk songs, and contemporary fusion pieces that draw on both Western and Arabic musical structures. Each evening is centred on a headline concert in one of Amman’s main performance venues — the Royal Cultural Centre on Queen Alia Street hosts many of the larger orchestra nights and has a capacity of around 1,800 seats.

Alongside the main evening concerts, some editions include daytime lectures and workshops on Arabic music theory, open to members of the public.
